Social response

On Ceuta Day the Delegation, the conveners and the FPAV gave different figures for the same march

On 2 September the Federación Provincial de Asociaciones de Vecinos (FPAV) and Foro Ceuta Siglo XXI called a march from the Murallas Reales to the plaza de África. A second gathering followed in the plaza de los Reyes. The march slogan is attributed, not a finding: «¡Ceuta no se vende, Ceuta se defiende!». The second gathering’s slogan, also attributed, is «Ceuta nos une». No arrest is recorded in Ceuta. Each figure stays with whoever gives it. They are not averaged.

  • Government Delegation, according to RTVE: according to Delegation figures, around 20,000 people took part. The march was mostly peaceful, but some news outlets were heckled.
  • Government Delegation, according to El Debate: the Delegation put attendance at more than 20,000, but the organisers placed the mobilisation above that figure. El Debate does not give the organisers’ number.
  • Conveners, according to Libertad Digital with an EFE piece: more than 25,000 people, according to the conveners, took to the streets of Ceuta that Wednesday. This is not the Delegation’s figure and not the FPAV estimate.
  • El Faro de Ceuta, on 2 September, without attributing the figure to an official body: the Ceuta Day march brought together more than 30,000 people.
  • El Faro de Ceuta, on 3 September, without attributing the figure to an official body: between 30,000 and 35,000 people filled the streets of the city.
  • FPAV, in El Faro de Ceuta of 3 September: participation reached approximately 45,000 people. The outlet says this figure is an estimate. It is the FPAV’s estimate, separate from the Delegation and from the conveners.
