Fact

On the afternoon of 30 July the Army deployment was requested

At 19:59 Europa Press published that the Government had mobilised the Armed Forces to support the Civil Guard, citing Moncloa sources. At 20:01 RTVE published that the Government had decided to deploy the Armed Forces to maintain security in Ceuta. On 25 August Robles said the deployment was requested at 20:30 at the Government delegate’s request. The press published before the time Robles gives. Each time stays with its source.

  • Europa Press wrote that “the Government has mobilised the Armed Forces in order to support and reinforce the Civil Guard to maintain security in the city of Ceuta.” It attributes this to Moncloa sources. The piece’s URL carries 19:59.
  • RTVE dated its piece at 20:01. It wrote that the Government had decided to deploy the Armed Forces to “maintain security” in Ceuta.
  • On 25 August, in the Defence Committee, Robles said that “on 30 July, in the afternoon, when the Government Delegation in Ceuta requested the collaboration of the Armed Forces with the state security forces, the Chief of the Defence Staff issued strategic directives in support of the Interior Ministry.”
  • Robles said: “At 20:30 the deployment of military personnel is requested following the Government delegate’s request.”
  • Robles said: “At 23:00 […] the containment of migrants begins in the El Tarajal industrial estate and in nearby areas.” The bracket marks a cut in the quotation.
  • The Civil Guard report of 31 July says that “since the late afternoon yesterday, Army personnel were deployed in the border area.”
  • That 25 August, Robles put at “3,060 Armed Forces personnel” deployed in Ceuta, “of whom 2,042 belong to the Army.” That is the figure from that session, not from 30 July.
